CONTES IMBRIQUÉS: Komm mit uns - vom Niger bis zur Elbe
Mary Jane ist international unterwegs mit Conte Imbriqués…
…unser transnationales und nomadisches Performance Projekt sammelt lokale Geschichten rund um das Thema Wasser und verbindet Menschen entlang der Wasserwege. Im Mittelpunkt steht das Verhältnis der Menschen zum Wasser, und wie es verflochten ist mit Migration und Klimawandel in drei verschiedenen Regionen - entlang des Nigers, durch die Sahelzone und die Sahara, an die Küsten des Atlantiks bis hin zur Elbe in Ostdeutschland. Dafür kooperieren wir (die OMA mit dem Kulturboot Mary Jane), das Centre Culturel Touareg Tumast Bamako und das Festival Nomades du Monde und bringen unsere Communities aus drei ganz unterschiedlichen Regionen zusammen. Die Zusammenarbeit ist zum einen eine kollektive Recherche mit einer sich ständig fortschreibenden Performance zwischen Geschichtenerzählung, Musik und Tanz, und zum anderen eine Möglichkeit, unsere Communities in den drei Regionen einzubeziehen. Contes Imbriqués – hier werden Erzählungen miteinander verwoben und Perspektiven und Erlebnisse an Flüssen in Geschichten verwandelt. Wie funktioniert das und was ist da so passiert in den letzten Jahren? Lest mal rein!
Im Mittelpunkt steht eine internationale Truppe professioneller Künstler*innen, die mit Gemeinden (Schulen, Kulturzentren und Stadtvierteln) in den drei Regionen zusammenarbeiten und in den Bereichen Musik, Tanz, Bühnenbild und Maskenbau kooperieren. Auf nomadische Weise entwickeln die Künstler*innen entlang ihrer Reise und durch die Aufenthalte in den verschiedenen Regionen eine tänzerische und musikalische Performance. Das Publikum wird eingeladen, sich im Setting einer zeitgenössischen Performance mit verwobenen, folkloristischen Erzählungen verschiedener Regionen auseinanderzusetzen. Hauptfigur unserer Performance? Mary Jane! Gemeinsam mit Salif Berthé (Geschichtenerzähler – Bamako) nimmt sie euch mit auf eine Reise vom Niger bis zur Elbe. Zum Ensemble gehören künstlerische Tandems der drei Partnerorganisationen: Mustafa El Boudani (M´hamid), Dr. Alan Bern (Weimar/Berlin), Vivien Zeller (Friedrichshagen), Ahmad Amanar (Bamako) und Naji Elamraani sowie Valentin Rion Schmehl und Ilana Reynolds in Tanz und Ko-Kreation. Organisiert von und koordiniert durch Ilana Reynolds (Göttingen), Salif Berthé und Valentin Schmehl (Berlin), sowie den Kuratoren Issa Dicko (Bamako) und Nourredine Bougrab (M´hamid).
Vom Anbeginn…
Contes Imbriqués ist ein nomadisch fortlaufendes Projekt seit 2019.
Die erste Recherche-Phase des Projekts fand 2021 in Bamako statt, großzügig unterstützt durch die Schule Complex Scolaire Moderne Adiara, finanziert vom Cercle Culturel Germano-Malien.
…bis heute
Die zweite Phase fand als künstlerische Recherche und internationaler Netzwerkaustausch im Rahmen von Thoulathy in „All around Culture“ statt, finanziert durch die EU.
2023 hatten wir ein allererstes Showing des Performance Projekts beim Festival de Nomades in Marokko.
Die zweite Show war eine Art work-in-progress-Version in 30-minütiger Länge. Besucher*innen des Sommerfests konnten diese in Aken (Elbe) auf der Werft mit uns genießen (dazu mehr im Blogeintrag „Wir am Wasser“). Die Masken und Kostüme erarbeiteten wir durch Workshops an Schulen in Thüringen und Bamako.
Das Performance-Projekt soll durch weitere künstlerische Aufenthalte zu einer abendfüllenden Show ausgebaut werden, die Flüsse und Gemeinden verbindet. Vielleicht strandet Mary Jane ja das nächste Mal auch an euren Ufern?

...our transnational and nomadic performance project collects local stories around the theme of water and connects people along the waterways. The focus is on people's relationship to water and how it is intertwined with migration and climate change in three different regions: along the Niger, through the Sahel and the Sahara, to the coasts of the Atlantic, and all the way to the Elbe in eastern Germany. We (the OMA with the culture boat Mary Jane), the Centre Culturel Touareg Tumast Bamako, and the Nomades du Monde festival are working together to bring together our communities from three very different regions. The collaboration is at once a collective research project with a constantly evolving performance between storytelling, music and dance, and an opportunity to involve our communities in the three regions. The heart of the project is an international troupe of professional artists who work with communities (schools, cultural centres, and neighbourhoods) in the three regions and cooperate in the fields of music, dance, stage design and mask making. In a nomadic way, the artists develop a dance and music performance along their journey and through their stays in the different regions. The audience is invited to engage with interwoven folkloric narratives from different regions in the setting of a contemporary performance. The main character of our performance? Mary Jane! Together with Salif Berthé (storyteller - Bamako), she will take you on a journey from Niger to the Elbe. From the beginning...
Contes Imbriqués has been a nomadic, ongoing project since 2019.
The first research phase of the project took place in Bamako in 2021, generously supported by the Complex Scolaire Moderne Adiara school, funded by the Cercle Culturel Germano-Malien.
...up to today
The second phase took place as an artistic research project and international network exchange within the framework of Thoulathy in "All around Culture", funded by the EU.
In 2023 we had a very first showing of the performance project at the Festival de Nomades in Morocco.
The second show was a 30-minute work-in-progress version. Visitors to the summer festival were able to enjoy it with us at the shipyard in Aken (more on this in the blog entry "Wir am Wasser").
We created the masks and costumes in workshops at schools in Thuringia and Bamako.
The performance project is to be expanded into a full-length show connecting rivers and communities through further artistic residencies. Perhaps Mary Jane will be moored on your shores next time?
